Sleigh Bells Serve Up Treats

July 26, 2010

Mash The Kills, and Florence and The Machine, crank the energy lever up, and you might arrive at Sleigh Bells. By Ed. Nimmervoll.

Sleigh Bells' new album Treats is an assault of technology and sound, sweetened by punk, metal, hip hop, electro, and ’60s girl group references. Alexis Krauss is – at times – there for the sound of her voice, using words for their sake (rather than meaning), sans lyrics. Everything defies precedent: it never lets up. The imagination is remarkable, the execution outstanding, and the recording quality extraordinary. I can’t think of the last time a record leapt from the speakers this way.
