Sony Bravia HX700 46" LCD TV

July 9, 2010

Despite a Premier League price tag, the new Sony Bravia is kicking goals.

RATING:

Out in time for the World Cup, Sony’s new Bravia HX700 is the most attractive television I’ve seen, standing out like a Beckham in a team of Rooneys. The picture quality is like watching Messi and Kaka: simply outstanding. Watching in glorious HD, the play is fast and smooth, and colours vivid. The interface is taken from Sony’s PlayStation; intuitive, slick and well designed. The addition of a USB port is a winner – you can play music and movies from a portable drive, though it doesn’t like Apple’s MP4 format. A yellow card to the controls, however: like the Australian defence against Germany, they’re frustratingly slow and unresponsive. At a shade under Ronaldo’s weekly pay packet and with 3D sets available, this one faces a tough run to the final. By Oliver Newbery
